About Us

NEIL SMITH

Based in Buckinghamshire, I have been training dogs for over 30 years which has given me a broad knowledge of dogs and training techniques.  I have owned and handled a variety of breeds, some good and some challenging. I currently live with 3 Labradors and a working cocker.  My own dogs have allowed me to have an in-depth understanding of the breeds as well as understanding what it is like to be the handler and the instructor.  Working through my own training hurdles has allowed me to empathise with my clients and their pets.

30 years of experience has given me a broad knowledge of dogs and various training techniques.  Over the years I have had the privilege to work alongside some highly experienced Instructors, including John Uncle – London Canine Training Establishment and Alan Menzies – Islington Dog Training.  During this time, I have attended many training courses and seminars run by Ian Dunbar, John Rogerson, Roy Hunter and Karen Prior to name but a few.  Keeping up to date with learning about new training methods and theories provides a valuable source of knowledge that is adapted to all the training classes.

Completing the APGI course with Lez Graham in 2019, has broadened my knowledge of anatomy, physiology, evolution of the dog, behaviour and instructing, helping to cement the foundations of my knowledge. I am proud to be an Accredited Instructor for the Pet Gundog ® and Trained for Life ®.

In 2020 I successfully qualified on the handlers and instructors UKCSD courses. It fascinated me to ignite the dogs natural ‘Seeking System’ and appreciate that all dogs get self fulfilment from this activity.

My approach to training is fun based with a smile.  I pride myself on being able to communicate with owners in order to help and motive them to achieve their expectations and full potential regardless of whether that is a well balanced pet or moving onto having a working gun dog or competing in field trials.  The dog’s welfare is paramount, not just physically but emotionally too. We try to strike a balance between the dogs needs and the customers expectations so that we will enhance the lives of everyone. We all want different things from our pets, some people are happy with companionship whilst others strive to compete to a high standard in their chosen field of training.
